The Usual Structure
For most export orders payment is staged rather than paid in one transfer. A deposit confirms the build slot, the balance is settled against inspection or before shipment, and documents are released according to the agreed terms.

Letter Of Credit
An L/C makes payment conditional on documents rather than trust, which is why it is common for larger or first-time orders. It is not free and it is not simple: the documents must match the credit exactly, and any discrepancy can delay payment. If you use one, agree the document list with your bank and your supplier before the credit is issued.

A request for full payment before any build or inspection.
A bank account in a name that does not match the contracting company.
Reluctance to put the specification in writing.
Pressure to move the payment to a different account after the order is agreed.
